CDE- LECTURE 1 – Adhesives in Restorative Dentistry by Kazhan Mohammed Omer
Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region – The Department of Dentistry at Komar University of Science and Technology (KUST) hosted the latest session of the Continuing Dental Enrichment Programme on October 5, 2025, featuring Dr. Kazhan Mohammed Omer. Held in the E-Auditorium at 12:30 PM, the seminar focused on “Adhesives in Restorative Dentistry,” offering an overview of adhesive system evolution, composition, and classification. Dr. Kazhan highlighted key scientific developments and compared manufacturer-recommended bonding protocols with evidence-based alternatives, noting that modifications such as extended application times or double-layering adhesives can significantly improve bond strength and clinical performance.
Dr. Kazhan also addressed the limitations of composite resins and emphasized the importance of proper surface wetting for optimal restorative adaptation. He presented techniques—including the use of an uncured second adhesive layer or a thin flowable composite—to enhance the interface between cured adhesive and highly filled composites. Clinical cases demonstrated long-term success, with restorations showing no marginal leakage even after 4–5 years, underscoring the value of understanding adhesive behavior to achieve durable restorative outcomes.
