CDE Lecture 8- Dr. Tarza Jamal Mahmood Presents on Understanding Crown Lengthening: Biologic Width, Surgical Approach, and Healing Outcomes
Sulaimani, Kurdistan Region – The Department of Dentistry at Komar University of Science and Technology (KUST) continued its Fall 2025 Continuing Dental Enrichment Programme with a faculty lecture presented by Dr. Tarza Jamal Mahmood on November 30, 2025. Held in the E-Auditorium at 12:30 PM, the session, titled “Understanding Crown Lengthening: Biologic Width, Surgical Approach, and Healing Outcomes,” offered a comprehensive exploration of one of the most essential procedures in periodontal and restorative dentistry.
Dr. Tarza outlined the key biologic principles underlying crown lengthening, emphasizing the critical role of preserving biologic width to prevent inflammation, attachment loss, and long-term periodontal complications. The lecture highlighted major clinical indications—such as altered passive eruption—and provided a step-by-step overview of the surgical workflow, including flap design, osseous recontouring, the use of surgical guides for precision, and soft-tissue management techniques. By demonstrating how proper periodontal architecture supports restorative success, Dr. Tarza underscored the procedure’s impact on ensuring predictable function, stability, and highly esthetic treatment outcomes.
